PUT OFF…PUT ON In the New Testament we are told to “put on Christ.” Rom 13:14 “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof, “and, Gal 3:27, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” The idea is a metaphor. We are to “wear” Jesus as we would wear a suit of clothes. But, before we can put on Christ, we must take off the former suit of unrighteousness. Col 3:8-9 tell us what to remove before we add the clothing of His righteousness. I think too many Christians try to add righteous clothing to our unrighteous clothing. We might as well put a nice suit or dress over our gardening attire! This message helps us to sort out the things that need to go before we add the things that distinguish us as Christ-followers.
