JIM W. BAIZE
Pastor
Pastor Jim W. Baize was saved at First Baptist Church of Chicago Heights, IL, in 1956. Later, he was called to the gospel ministry in January 1966. He married Pat Goodson in June of 1969 and graduated from the Mission University (formerly Baptist Bible College) in Springfield, MO in May 1970 with a Bachelor of Theology degree. He has since received two honorary doctorate degrees.
In 1973, Pastor Baize became the pastor of Midway Baptist Church (now called Ocean View Church) in San Diego, CA, where he served as Lead Pastor for 41 years.
Jim was presented with an opportunity at First Baptist Church of Coronado and became the pastor in January of 2016.
Pastor Jim and Pat live in San Diego. They have three children, two sons-in-law and three grandchildren.

Bo says it is a blessing and honor to serve the Lord and FBC as a trustee. He has previously served in many capacities in his 32 years at College Avenue Baptist Church in San Diego: Sunday school teacher, youth ministry, men’s ministry, deacon, usher, and college men’s mentor program. He and his wife, Margie, were involved for many years with the Aloha program at CABC helping with foreign exchange students attending the SDSU language program.
Bo and Margie met in February 1974, were married in February 1975 and gave their lives to Christ at the Billy Graham Crusade in August of 1976. They have one daughter, Sheerah, who is the Worship Leader at FBC and they love being able to attend FBC with their three grandchildren and son-in-law, Stephen as well. Their lives have been so blessed to live in Coronado where Margie, Sheerah, and their grandkids were born, raised, and went through the Coronado school system.
Bo's life has been so fulfilling as a husband, father, grandpa, friend, coach, mentor, advisor, Bo-gyver (fix it man), and brother in Christ. He is excited to serve with Pastor Jim and the other trustees here at FBC. -
Julie Burkhart
Church Secretary
Julie loves working and serving at First Baptist Church Coronado! She came to FBC Coronado in November of 2016. Prior to coming to FBC Coronado Julie attended Midway Baptist Church (now Oceanview Church) for 18 years. Julie has come to know and love her FAMILY at FBC Coronado and says she is continually blessed by the friendships and bonds made here.
Julie Burkhart is a wife, Mom of 3 and "Grandma" to 8. She has been married to Eric Burkhart for 28 years. When not working Julie enjoys spending time with Eric, spending lots of fun time with her grandkids, reading, and playing trombone in San Diego City Guard Band and East County Community Orchestra.

Bobby greer
maintenance lead
Bobby has served at First Baptist in various capacities over the years. He currently serves as Maintenance Lead, and with the worship team.
Bobby accepted Christ in his early teens. He grew up singing with his family in the church choir. He joined the Navy at the age of 17, and served 20 years. The Navy brought him to San Diego, and ultimately to First Baptist Church.

SHEERAH Haywood
WORSHIP LEADER
Sheerah is honored to be the Worship Leader for FBC. She has played the piano since she was 8 and has always loved singing.
When she's not singing and playing the piano, you can find her cleaning pools around town with her dad. She's also a freelance copywriter and photographer. Sheerah is a Coronado native, a 1997 CHS grad, and her kids are the 3rd generation to go through Coronado schools. Sheerah and her husband, Stephen, live close to church where they raise their three kids and feline family. She's on the board for CHS Baseball and Coronado Youth Softball (where she also serves a a coach), and enjoys being involved in the local community.

Nik ives
sound and Media
Nik has found his niche serving the Lord at FBC, hidden in the sound booth at the back of the church.
Nik moved to Coronado in 2012 to start a retail precious metals and safe deposit business with a long-time friend. Previous to this he was an advertising agency executive in New York City for many years. Nik surrendered his life to Christ in 1998, partly due to the crash of Swissair Flight 111 on September 2, 1998.

Gerri Machin
Trustee
Gerri Machin has served on the trustee board since 2023 and keeps notes as secretary at meetings for the records. She was born into a missionary family that moved to the Philippine Islands when she was 3. At age 5, she asked Jesus into her heart. Through answered prayer, God became more real to her as a middle schooler and she was baptized. Gerri is a retired elementary school teacher, former Sunday School teacher, and is married to Paul. They recently celebrated 20 years of marriage and have four children and four grandchildren!
Gerri treasures spending time with her high schoolers, watching them grow and play sports. Precious time with grandchildren is deeply treasured as well. She enjoys cooking, gardening, and walking with Paul and dog Scarlet to the beach. A current favorite verse is Psalm 25:4-5, “Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.”

Dan Malcolm

Men’s Ministry Leader
Dan and his wife, Nicole, are regular attending members of FBC and are active in several ministries of the church. They are also involved in Bible Study Fellowship, where Nicole has served in various leadership roles for over a decade and currently serves as Teaching Leader.
Dan is president of Malcolm Properties, a full-service commercial real estate firm in San Diego, specializing in the brokerage, development, and investment of commercial properties in the Western United States. He also maintains a separate law practice specializing in commercial real estate contract, transactional, entitlement and land use law. Dan also serves as Port Commissioner on the San Diego Unified Port District Board and has previously served on numerous other public and private boards. Dan has also served as Chairman of Sharp Coronado Hospital and on the master Board of Directors for Sharp Healthcare.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and real estate from San Diego State University Business School awarded in 1989 and was also awarded a Juris Doctorate of Law from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1996. Dan and Nicole have been married for 23 years and they have 3 children: Zachary, Athena, and Tatum. The Malcolms have resided in Imperial Beach for over 20 years and maintain an active outdoor beach and ocean oriented lifestyle.

monica medina
convalescent ministry
Monica loves to spread God's love and see people smile! She has been volunteering in many different organizations since high school. At FBC, she formed the Convalescent Ministry with Donna Beiriger. Convalescent Ministry visits different nursing homes throughout San Diego county spreading God’s love by visiting the residents. Each visit is different with different activities - singing, dancing, sharing stories, and hugs. They deliver handmade cards, stuffed animals, and sometimes have a manicure table or an arts and crafts table. Fred Snider plays the violin for the residents and they are always looking for volunteers to come spread God's love. This is a family ministry that is open to all ages.
Monica also serves as a softball coach/mentor and has been coaching in the South Bay area for 26 years. She also volunteers with Project Compassion, a medical missionary in USA, Mexico and Africa; Helping Hands Orphanage in Malawi, Africa where each year, they donate 300-500 sandals, toothbrushes, hats, and wipes; Angel Tree Prison Ministry; and TLC ministry (Totally Living for Christ) nursing home, orphanage, and homeless ministry in USA, Mexico, and Africa.

terry miller
Trustee
Terry was born and raised on a small potato farm in Maine. He was saved at the age of 12 at a Christian summer camp. Later, he felt God’s clear and powerful call to serve Him as a church pastor while attending the same camp at the age of 17. Terry served in the Navy from 1970-74 and that’s how he found his way to San Diego in 1971.
He was blessed to serve as a church pastor for over 35 years here in San Diego County. He is now retired from full-time ministry, but loves serving God at FBC.
Currently, he plays the guitar most Sundays on the Worship Team. He recently started leading a Wednesday men’s group called “The Battle Plan for Prayer” and attends the Tuesday Navigators military outreach each week. Terry also does a daily Bible reading post on Facebook called The Oasis.
Terry and his wife, Marce traveled in their motor home full-time for 8 years before finally settling down in San Diego. They love movies and the ocean. Their two children and five grandkids live in Southern California and they keep them busy as well.

annabelle vergeils
Events coordinator, WOMEN'S MINISTRY LEADER
Annabelle has been a believer in the Lord Jesus since she was 14 years old. She loves to organize events with precision and detail. Her purpose is so the body of Christ can come together in unity and share in the gifts and talents the Lord has given them. Nothing blesses Annabelle more than to see men, women, and children growing in their gifts, living fully in the joy of the Lord. Women's Ministry is also a passion for Annabelle as she is the administrative assistant for women's bible studies. Ministering to the ladies individually is always on the forefront of her heart and mind when choosing these studies.
Annabelle has organized a number of lucrative school building fundraisers for her children's private schools over the years, in addition to organizing two citywide 5K runs, in Las Vegas and Imperial Beach to raise money for the Calvary Chapel Missions Training base in La Gloria, Mexico.
She has been married to the love of her life, Jack, for 27 wonderful years. After she retired from her 15-year real estate career in Las Vegas, she was blessed to have the privilege of raising her blended family of 4 beautiful children, who now range in age from 33 down to 21.Annabelle is also a vocalist and has been involved in music ministry in one form or another for the last 15 years. You can often see her at various local parks and piers performing live worship for the city.

David waitley
trustee, Adult bible study leader
David Waitley moved back to Coronado with his wife and seven daughters in 2009. After many years attending Shadow Mountain Church and serving as a deacon, small group, and men’s ministry leader, David and Heidi began attending First Baptist in 2019.
By the mercy of Christ, David and Heidi came to know the Lord as young adults having not grown up in the knowledge of God’s word. The Waitley’s and their daughters (5th generation San Diegans) love our community and serve people with disabilities through their non-profit organization, Team Quinn. David works in Coronado and throughout San Diego in real estate brokerage, development, and construction. As a 25+ year student of Scripture, David loves to help people develop their love for studying and knowing Christ through His word.
David leads our Sunday morning bible study before church and has led individuals and groups through books of Scripture since 2008. In addition to our Adult Sunday School, David also leads a Thursday night bible study at the church focusing on verse by verse study of books of the Bible. Our recent book studies include Revelation, Hebrews, James, Jude, Jonah, Obadiah, and Ezekiel. Anyone and everyone is welcome to visit or join our studies at any time, we hope to see you!
