JIM W. BAIZE, Pastor
Pastor Jim W. Baize was saved at the First Baptist Church of Chicago Heights, IL, in 1956. Later, he accepted the call to the ministry in January 1966, graduating from the Baptist Bible College, Springfield, MO in May 1970 with a Bachelor of Theology.
In 1973, Pastor Baize accepted the position of Pastor, Midway Baptist Church (now called Ocean View Church), San Diego, CA, where he served as Lead Pastor until February 1, 2015.
Pat and Jim Baize “retired” for about three months, when an opportunity to pastor the First Baptist Church of Coronado presented itself. Jim became the Interim Pastor and then the Lead Pastor in
January of 2016.
Pastor Baize and his wife of over 50 years, the former Miss Patricia Goodson, live in San Diego. They have three children, two son-in-laws, a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.

Julie Burkhart, Church Secretary
Julie loves working and serving at First Baptist Church Coronado! She came to FBC Coronado in November of 2016 after attending a larger church in the South Bay for 18 years. Julie has come to know and love her FAMILY at FBC Coronado and says she is continually blessed by the friendships and bonds made here.
Julie Burkhart is a wife, Mom of 3 and "Grandma" to 8. She has been married to Eric Burkhart for 26 years. When not working Julie enjoys spending time with Eric, spending lots of fun time with her grandkids, reading, playing trombone in an orchestra and playing the piano.

Rachel Gorken, leadership team member, women's BIBLe study leader
Rachel Gorken has been married to Gary for over 20 years and they have 2 kids, Grant and Olivia. In 2012, her family took a leap of faith and moved across the country from Virginia Beach, VA to Coronado, CA. Ever since, First Baptist Coronado has been their church home.
Rachel spends most of her days loving and ministering to her family and praying with and discipling the amazing team of people inside of their thriving small business, GMS Industrial Supply.
Her other loves include writing and enjoying one-on-one time with sisters In Christ...it is a most treasured gift. Rachel also enjoys fellowship and any type of sport activity or adventure.

Bobby greer, maintenance lead
Bobby has served at First Baptist in various capacities over the years. He currently serves as Maintenance Lead, and with the worship team.
Bobby accepted Christ in his early teens. He grew up singing with his family in the church choir. He joined the Navy at the age of 17, and served 20 years. The Navy brought him to San Diego, and ultimately to First Baptist Church.

SHEERAH Haywood, WORSHIP LEADER
Sheerah is honored to be the Worship Leader for FBC. She has played the piano since she was 8 and has always loved singing.
When she's not singing and playing the piano, you can find her cleaning pools around town with her dad. She's also a freelance copywriter and photographer. Sheerah is a Coronado native, a 1997 CHS grad, and her kids are the 3rd generation to go through Coronado schools. Sheerah and her husband, Stephen, live close to church where they raise their three kids and feline family. She's on the board for CHS Baseball and Coronado Youth Softball (where she also serves a a coach), and enjoys being involved in the local community.

Nik ives, sound and Media
Nik has found his niche serving the Lord at FBC, hidden in the sound booth at the back of the church.
Nik moved to Coronado in 2012 to start a retail precious metals and safe deposit business with a long-time friend. Previous to this he was an advertising agency executive in New York City for many years. Nik surrendered his life to Christ in 1998, partly due to the crash of Swissair Flight 111 on September 2, 1998.

FITZHUGH LEE, ADULT class teacher
Fitz Lee serves FBC as the Adult Sunday School ministry lead of the church. He has served in lay ministry for over 30 year and has been married to his wife, Agathe, for the last 25 of them.
Fitz retired from the Navy in August 2017 after a 24-year career where he and Agathe led and ministered to men, women, and families in the Naval Aviation community, both at home and abroad. He and Agathe are the proud parents of three boys, Nick, Tom, and Henry. Fitz also serves on the Board of YoungLife Coronado, a local chapter of the international youth ministry, YoungLife.
When not serving his family, church, and community, Fitz can be found flying the friendly skies as a pilot with American Airlines.

jon lower, Leadership Team member
Jon came to the Lord when he was in high school. He graduated from Biola University, and then worked in Los Angeles before returning to San Diego. He taught school for five years, then went to seminary and was in ministry for three years. He has been working as a handyman for the last 20 years and is in the process of retiring.
Jon and Patsy have been married for 25 years. They have two grown children, Kelsey and Karina, a son-in-law, and one grandson. He and Patsy lead Financial Peace University seminars at the church – a nine-week course on financial freedom. He is involved in Adult Sunday School, and helps with maintenance.

Dan Malcolm, Leadership Team Member,
VIP Ministry Leader, Men’s Ministry Leader
Dan and his wife, Nicole, are regular attending members of FBC and are active in several ministries of the church. They are also involved in Bible Study Fellowship, where Nicole has served in various leadership roles for over a decade and currently serves as Teaching Leader.
Dan is president of Malcolm Properties, a full-service commercial real estate firm in San Diego, specializing in the brokerage, development, and investment of commercial properties in the Western United States. He also maintains a separate law practice specializing in commercial real estate contract, transactional, entitlement and land use law. Dan also serves as Port Commissioner on the San Diego Unified Port District Board and has previously served on numerous other public and private boards. Dan has also served as Chairman of Sharp Coronado Hospital and on the master Board of Directors for Sharp Healthcare.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and real estate from San Diego State University Business School awarded in 1989 and was also awarded a Juris Doctorate of Law from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1996. Dan and Nicole have been married for 23 years and they have 3 children: Zachary, Athena, and Tatum. The Malcolms have resided in Imperial Beach for over 20 years and maintain an active outdoor beach and ocean oriented lifestyle.

monica medina, convalescent ministry
Monica loves to spread God's love and see people smile! She has been volunteering in many different organizations since high school. At FBC, she formed the Convalescent Ministry with Donna Beiriger. Convalescent Ministry visits different nursing homes throughout San Diego county spreading God’s love by visiting the residents. Each visit is different with different activities - singing, dancing, sharing stories, and hugs. They deliver handmade cards, stuffed animals, and sometimes have a manicure table or an arts and crafts table. Fred Snider plays the violin for the residents and they are always looking for volunteers to come spread God's love. This is a family ministry that is open to all ages.
Monica also serves as a softball coach/mentor and has been coaching in the South Bay area for 26 years. She also volunteers with Project Compassion, a medical missionary in USA, Mexico and Africa; Helping Hands Orphanage in Malawi, Africa where each year, they donate 300-500 sandals, toothbrushes, hats, and wipes; Angel Tree Prison Ministry; and TLC ministry (Totally Living for Christ) nursing home, orphanage, and homeless ministry in USA, Mexico, and Africa.
